CANTHOPLASTY
Canthoplasty
An eye shape designed with both the horizontal length of the eye and the direction of the outer corner in mind
CANTHOPLASTY
With canthoplasty,
create bright, open eyes.
Taking each person's eye shape and structure into account, this surgery adjusts the horizontal and vertical length of the eye and the angle of the outer corner to create softer, more open-looking eyes.

What Are Medial, Lateral & Lower Canthoplasty?
Canthoplasty is classified by location
as medial, upper, lateral,
or lower canthoplasty.
-
Medial Canthoplasty (Upper Canthoplasty)
When the inner part of the eye is covered by skin, making the eyes look closed-in or short, or when the eyes appear set wide apart, this procedure opens the inner corner of the eye so the eyes look larger, brighter, and more open.
-
Lateral Canthoplasty
The excess skin and mucosa covering the outer part of the eye are removed and sutured to lengthen the eye horizontally, making the eyes look open and deep.
-
Lower Canthoplasty
This surgery lowers a lower eyelid that sits too high and covers the pupil. Without leaving a scar, it softens the line beneath the eye, lengthening the eye vertically and creating a gentler, kinder impression.
Canthoplasty: When It Is Needed
| Type | Medial Canthoplasty (Upper Canthoplasty) | Lateral Canthoplasty | Lower Canthoplasty |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | When an epicanthal fold makes the inner part of the eye look closed-in | When the space between the eyes is too narrow for medial canthoplasty | When the outer part of the pupil is largely covered |
| 02 | When the eyes are set far apart | When medial canthoplasty alone did not achieve the desired result | When the eyes still do not look open after medial or lateral canthoplasty |
| 03 | When the eye is short from side to side | When the eye's horizontal length is short, so the eyes do not look open | When you want a softer, gentler impression |
| 04 | When you want large, bright eyes with a double eyelid line | When little of the white of the eye is visible | When the eye's vertical opening is narrow |

Canthoplasty Surgical Methods
FOURSEASONS · PLASTIC · SURGERY
Combined Canthoplasty
Lateral canthoplasty, which lengthens the eye horizontally, and outer corner lowering, which brings down upturned outer corners, are performed together,
making the eyes look larger and more open overall for a kind, soft-looking eye shape.
When Combined Canthoplasty Is Needed
-
CASE 01
Upturned outer corners that give a fierce impression
-
CASE 02
Eyes that are short horizontally and look cramped
-
CASE 03
Previous canthoplasty did not give the desired result
-
CASE 04
The surgical area has re-adhered after lateral canthoplasty
Combined Canthoplasty Procedure
It cleanly removes the tissue that can cause adhesion, meaning the chance of the eye re-fusing after surgery,
while causing minimal damage, so almost no red tissue is exposed.
-
STEP 01 Incision of the inner conjunctiva
along the outer corner of the eye -
STEP 02 Lower the eyelid outward
and secure it firmly -
STEP 03 Open the eye to suit its shape,
then remove the remaining mucosa -
STEP 04 Sutured inside the eye
so no scar is visible
Beyond the limits of lateral canthoplasty,
combined canthoplasty that considers the entire eye shape
may leave a visible scar after surgery
so no scar is visible
carries a risk of recurrence
so recurrence is unlikely
for large, open eyes
※ Results after surgery may vary from person to person, and side effects may occur.
Four Seasons' Signature Combined Canthoplasty
-
01 Large, open eyes Lateral canthoplasty and outer corner lowering are performed together,
opening up small, cramped-looking eyes -
02 Outer corner correction Lowers sharp-looking, upturned outer corners
for a gentle eye shape -
03 Minimal adhesion Cleanly removes the tissue that causes adhesion,
a side effect of conventional lateral canthoplasty -
04 Little red tissue exposure Minimal damage means
almost no red tissue is visible
