Each type of pigment has a different cause

Treatment methods vary according to the cause and form of the pigment.

  1. Enlarged photo of skin with melasma spread widely across the cheek
    Melasma
TYPE 01 Melasma A pigmentation caused by excessive melanin production due to heredity or hormones, appearing in various sizes. It forms in the epidermis or deep in the dermis, so treatment methods vary according to the cause and form of the pigment.
  2. Enlarged photo of freckled skin with small clusters of pigment spread evenly
    Freckles
TYPE 02 Freckles Freckles are pigment made up of clusters of various sizes, 1–5 mm, spread evenly across the skin. They are sometimes considered a charming feature in Western countries, but because they are a relatively distinct brown and not easy to cover with makeup, many people want them removed.
  3. Enlarged photo of skin with distinct, dark age spots
    Age spots
TYPE 03 Age spots Pigment that tends to develop on areas exposed to light, such as the face. It is irregular in shape and varied in size, and tends to darken over time. It more often appears on the sides of the face than the front and does not fade on its own, so laser or other treatment is needed.
  4. Enlarged photo of skin with blemishes larger than freckles scattered across it
    Blemishes
TYPE 04 Blemishes Blemishes appear as marks left behind after sudden sun exposure, dermatitis, folliculitis, or injury. They are larger than freckles, are present year-round regardless of season, and once formed, do not go away on their own.

Pigmentation: can a single laser
solve it?

Reliable improvement is only possible when the cause is identified through an accurate diagnosis.
Treatment should differ according to the type, depth, size, and shape of the pigment.
