What Is a Hooked Nose?

For a smooth nose line

A hump nose (aquiline nose) is a nose with a bump protruding from the middle of the bridge. It often comes with a long, drooping nasal tip, which can give a harsh, older-looking impression, so this surgery corrects the cartilage and bone to smooth out the curved bridge.

Hooked Nose Surgery Methods

The correction method varies with the degree of the hump and the height of the nasal bridge.

  • Side profile of a nose with a mild hump
    CASE 01

    01

    Mild hump

If the hump is not severe, filing down the protruding area alone may be enough to correct it.

  • Side profile of a nose with a low bridge and a hump
    CASE 02

    02

Low nasal bridge with a hump

After the protruding part is shaved down, an implant is inserted to raise the bridge to an appropriate height and angle. In most hooked noses the nasal tip droops, and in such cases tip rhinoplasty using autologous cartilage is performed on the drooping tip, matched to the forehead and nasal bridge line.

  • Side profile of a nose with a large hump and a large overall size
    CASE 03

    03

Large hump and large nose overall

After the hump is shaved down, an osteotomy is performed on the lateral nasal bones and they are brought toward the midline to narrow the nasal width, creating a natural line after surgery.
