Lifting a drooping nasal tip to complete a well-defined nose line

Arrow Nose / Long Nose

Arrow Nose / Long Nose: What Is It?

An arrow nose with a drooping, elongated-looking tip

When the nasal tip and columella point sharply downward while the nasal wings turn upward, the nose looks like an arrow, which is called an arrow nose. It can be corrected with surgery that trims the long cartilage of the nasal tip and lifts the tip.

Arrow Nose / Long Nose Surgical Methods

Direction of alar cartilage rotation

We rotate the drooping alar cartilage
upward

When the alar cartilage is anchored to the septal cartilage, it rotates upward and the nasal tip projects forward and higher.

※ The arc in the diagram shows only the direction of rotation. The angle of rotation varies depending on each person's cartilage condition.

    01

    Cartilage repositioning rhinoplasty

The drooping alar cartilage is anchored to the septal cartilage with sutures. Once fixed, the alar cartilage rotates upward and the nasal tip is lifted forward.

  2. Cross-section diagram marking the septal cartilage that has grown long downward and the resection line
    Overgrown septal cartilage

    02

    Septal cartilage reshaping

If the septal cartilage grows too long downward, the alar cartilage and nasal tip connected to it also droop naturally. Trimming part of the end of the septal cartilage therefore rotates the nasal tip upward.
