Scar Revision Surgery
From a single surgery to emotional healing
A scar is a kind of adhesive the body produces to repair damaged skin.
Skin that has suffered trauma or surgery will leave a scar in some form, and scar revision surgery is the procedure that removes it.
Surgery time and recovery period vary depending on the size and condition of the scar.

Scar removal surgery can be performed only after the wound has healed and at least 6–12 months have passed, because the healing response continues beneath the skin even after the surface has closed. Generally, about 6–12 months after the injury, the scar softens to some extent and its color approaches that of normal skin. This process is called ‘scar maturation.’ Surgery should be performed after the scar has matured.
Differences between techniques shown in three shots: before incision · incision and excision · after suturing
A method in which the entire scar is completely excised and then meticulously sutured
A method in which the scar is placed along the central limb of a Z, a Z-shaped incision is made, and the two triangular flaps are lifted, transposed so that they cross over each other, and then sutured
A technique developed to overcome the drawbacks of Z-plasty, named for its W-shaped suture line. A scar that runs against the relaxed skin tension lines is excised in a sawtooth pattern, and the small triangular flaps on each side are alternately interdigitated and sutured.
We compared, at the same scale, how each of the three techniques excises and sutures the scar.
Bleeding, infection, and inflammation may occur after surgery or procedures, so careful attention is required.
