Full Aftercare Instructions After Stitch Removal for Nose and Philtrum Reduction
No Alcohol / No Smoking
- Do not drink alcohol or smoke for at least 2 months after surgery. They are the leading cause of inflammation and complications after nose surgery.
Swelling
- Your nose may look tilted upward because of swelling. It will gradually settle back into place starting about one month later at the earliest.
Ointment
- For one week after stitch removal, apply Neosiderm (Fucidin) to the wound inside the nose twice a day, morning and evening. After that week, apply scar ointment consistently for 3–6 months. (Apply all ointments 2–3 times a day, spreading a small amount thinly with a cotton swab.)
- Scars from alar reduction and philtrum reduction gradually fade after 3 months. Please keep applying the scar ointment you purchased until you have used it all. Depending on how your recovery progresses, scar laser treatment may be performed after your follow-up with the doctor.
Compresses
- For bruised areas of the face other than the nose, applying a warm compress with a heat pack warmed in the microwave for 15–20 seconds helps bruises fade faster.
Face Washing
- You may wash your face starting 2 days after stitch removal.
Makeup
- Skin makeup is allowed from 2 weeks after suture removal.
Glasses
- You may wear glasses starting one month later. Thick-framed glasses whose frame and nose pads are a single piece may be worn from 2 weeks later.
Exercise
- Begin any exercise that makes your face flush — golf, gym workouts, swimming, saunas and jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouses), and so on — only after 4 weeks have passed since stitch removal.
Care
- Nose packs, nose scrubs, high-heeled shoes, and vigorous massage may be resumed after one month.
