Full Post-Care Instructions for Forehead Lift

No Alcohol / No Smoking

  • To prevent infection, you must avoid alcohol and smoking for 4 weeks.

Stitch / Bandage Removal

  • The bandage is removed after 1–2 days.
  • Stitches are removed between 10 and 14 days after surgery, depending on how the wound is healing.
  • If you have tape on, please do not remove it yourself. Take care that it does not come off until it is removed at the clinic.
  • From the day the bandage is removed until one week after the stitches are removed, apply Neosiderm (Fucidin) with a cotton swab 2–3 times a day, using only a small amount, just enough that the wound doesn't dry out. Applying too much may cause the wound to become macerated.

Swelling

  • Swelling varies from person to person.
  • Swelling is greatest during the first 2-3 days after surgery and gradually subsides over 2-4 weeks.
  • On the day of surgery, sit upright as much as possible, avoid bending your head down or lying face down, and sleep with 2-3 pillows propped under you, which helps reduce swelling and pain. Also, do not turn your head to the side or lie on your stomach; it is best to sleep lying flat on your back.

Compresses

  • To bring down the swelling quickly, apply cold compresses. Placing an ice pack directly on the eyes carries a risk of frostbite, so please place thin medical gauze (or a thin handkerchief if you don't have gauze) between the ice pack and your skin.
  • After the stitches are removed, warm compresses help with residual swelling and bruising.

Prescribed Medication

  • Be sure to take the medication prescribed by the clinic after surgery.
  • If you have dizziness or nausea for 1–2 days after surgery, take Zofran tablets (orange pills) at 12-hour intervals, letting them dissolve under your tongue.
  • To prevent bleeding, painkillers such as aspirin, vitamins, red ginseng, juices and extracts, omega-3, propolis, and hormonal medications such as oral contraceptives may be taken only one week after all treatment has ended.
  • If pain at the surgical site is severe even after taking the prescribed medication, you may take 1 additional Tylenol tablet (up to 5 tablets per day).

Shampooing

  • The clinic will help you with your first shampoo on day 3, and when you visit for treatment, we will guide you on how to wash your hair at home.
  • Before your first shampoo, we will remove the hair ties in your hair. Even if it is uncomfortable, please do not remove them yourself until day 3.
  • You can shampoo from 2 days after the stitches are removed, but for one week, wash your hair carefully so that shampoo, conditioner, etc. do not directly touch the wound area. Then dry your hair with cool air and apply the ointment to the wound.

Perm / Hair Dye

  • Perms and hair dyeing are possible starting 2 months after surgery.
  • You may comb or brush your whole head of hair starting 1 week after stitch removal.

Exercise

  • Light walks help swelling go down faster.
  • Please wait until 4 weeks after surgery to start any exercise, such as golf, gym workouts, or swimming, as well as straining or bending over, strenuous activity that raises cardiac output, and saunas or jjimjilbangs (Korean bathhouses).

Care

  • It takes about 3–6 months for the position of the eyebrows and forehead to settle and for scalp sensation to fully return. This may vary from person to person.
