Full Aftercare Instructions After Stitch Removal
No Alcohol / No Smoking
- Do not drink alcohol or smoke for 2 months after surgery. Alcohol and cigarettes cause inflammation and delay wound healing.
Face Washing / Shampooing
- You may wash your face starting 2 days after stitch removal.
Makeup / Exercise
- Contact lenses, eye makeup, jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouses), saunas, and exercise may be resumed 3 weeks after stitch removal.
- Except for light walks, begin any exercise that makes your face flush — golf, gym workouts, swimming, and so on — only after 4 weeks have passed since surgery.
Perm / Hair Dye
- If you had a forehead lift (forehead reduction) or a facelift, these are possible after 2 months. For all other procedures, they are possible after 4 weeks.
Compresses
- To ease bruising and swelling, warm a heat pack in the microwave for about 15–20 seconds and apply a warm compress frequently. (Heating it for more than 30 seconds may cause the pack to burst or cause burns, so please be careful.)
Care
- Pain relievers such as aspirin, vitamins, red ginseng, juice-type health supplements, omega-3, propolis, and hormonal medications such as oral contraceptives may be taken one week after all treatment has ended. (Tylenol is fine to take.)
- You may use artificial tears, but please do not use them too often.
- Continue applying the eye ointment you used after eyelid surgery for one more week.
- Continue applying the prescribed Neosiderm to the surgical site for one more week.
- Apply scar ointment consistently for 3–6 months, starting one week after stitch removal. (Apply all ointments 2–3 times a day, spreading a small amount thinly with a cotton swab.)
