Full Aftercare Instructions for Deep Cheek and Dimple Procedures

Brushing / Gargling

  • Brush gently, and take care not to touch the surgical site with the head of your toothbrush. (We recommend a toothbrush with a small head.)
  • One gargling set consists of 3 rinses with the brown solution provided by the clinic, followed by 7 rinses with drinking water (filtered water or bottled water, not tap water).
  • Please do at least five sets a day: one set after waking up, one set after each meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and one set before going to bed. If you have a snack in between, be sure to gargle afterward.
  • Never gargle the way you normally would, by pushing air in and out of your mouth. The tissue inside the mouth has a texture similar to imitation crab stick, and gargling that way creates pressure that may cause the incision to open. The safe way to gargle is to hold the solution or water in your mouth and gently shake your head from side to side.
  • While you are gargling, it is best to avoid drinks containing fine particles, such as juices with pulp, soy milk, and misugaru (roasted grain powder) drinks, as this helps your recovery.
  • Once you no longer need to gargle, use a children's toothbrush or a soft-bristled toothbrush and gently brush only your teeth, taking care that the brush head does not touch the tissue inside your mouth.

Care

  • For about one week after surgery, please avoid spicy or irritating foods and carbonated drinks.
  • When washing your face, be gentle and avoid pressing hard or rubbing.
  • Please avoid touching the surgical site with your tongue.
  • For about 3 weeks, eat soft foods such as porridge. After that you may return to regular meals, but it is best to avoid hard foods that require a lot of chewing.

No Alcohol / No Smoking

  • To prevent infection, you must avoid alcohol and smoking for 4 weeks.

Prescribed Medication

  • Be sure to take the medication prescribed by the clinic after surgery.
  • To prevent bleeding, painkillers such as aspirin, vitamins, red ginseng, juices and extracts, omega-3, propolis, and hormonal medications such as oral contraceptives may be taken only one week after all treatment has ended.
  • If pain at the surgical site is severe even after taking the prescribed medication, you may take 1 additional Tylenol tablet (up to 5 tablets per day).

Swelling

  • Swelling varies from person to person.
  • Swelling is greatest during the first 2-3 days after surgery and gradually subsides over 2-4 weeks.
  • On the day of surgery, sit upright as much as possible, avoid bending your head down or lying face down, and sleep with 2-3 pillows propped under you, which helps reduce swelling and pain. Also, do not turn your head to the side or lie on your stomach; it is best to sleep lying flat on your back.
  • A feeling of a foreign object or reduced sensation after surgery will improve over time, so there is no need to worry.

Suture Removal

  • Stitches are removed between 10 and 14 days after surgery.
  • For up to one week after suture removal, gargle after meals as often as needed so that no food remains at the surgical site. Please use the gargle solution provided by the clinic. If you are running low, let us know before it runs out and we will have more ready for you at your next visit.

Exercise

  • Light walks help swelling go down faster.
  • Light exercise is possible starting 2 weeks after surgery.
