Full Aftercare Instructions for Double Chin Muscle Plication
No Alcohol / No Smoking
- To prevent infection, you must avoid alcohol and smoking for 4 weeks.
Compresses
- To reduce swelling quickly, please apply cold compresses often after surgery. Placing an ice pack directly on the surgical site carries a risk of frostbite, so please place thin medical gauze (or a thin handkerchief if you don't have gauze) between the ice pack and your skin.
Swelling
- Swelling varies from person to person.
- Swelling is greatest during the first 2-3 days after surgery and gradually subsides over 2-4 weeks.
- On the day of surgery, sit upright as much as possible, avoid bending your head down or lying face down, and sleep with 2-3 pillows propped under you, which helps reduce swelling and pain. Also, do not turn your head to the side or lie on your stomach; it is best to sleep lying flat on your back.
Pulling Sensation
- On day 3 after surgery, once the skin-colored tape has been removed, you may wear the compression band over the strip tape. Wear the compression band for one month. Wearing it without strip tape applied may cause the wound to open, so please be careful.
- Wear the compression band for one month, except while sleeping, and we recommend about 3–4 hours at a time. (Wearing it while sleeping or for long periods can impair circulation and increase swelling, so please leave intervals between wearing.)
Suture Removal
- The tape will be removed at your day-3 visit. Please do not remove it yourself before the clinic does.
- Stitches are removed on day 7. For 2 days after suture removal, take care to keep the wound from getting wet.
- After the tape is removed, put a small amount of Neosidem (Fucidin) on a cotton swab and apply it 2–3 times a day, using only enough that the wound does not dry out. Applying too much may cause the wound to become macerated. After the stitches are removed, apply strip tape along the incision line and then skin-colored tape over it (as instructed during your treatment).
- In the evening after washing your face, remove the strip tape, apply the ointment, and then go to sleep. (Use Neosidem (Fucidin) for one week after suture removal, and after that apply a scar ointment.)
Prescribed Medication
- Be sure to take the medication prescribed by the clinic after surgery.
- To prevent bleeding, painkillers such as aspirin, vitamins, red ginseng, juices and extracts, omega-3, propolis, and hormonal medications such as oral contraceptives may be taken only one week after all treatment has ended.
- If pain at the surgical site is severe even after taking the prescribed medication, you may take 1 additional Tylenol tablet (up to 5 tablets per day).
Exercise
- Light walks help swelling go down faster.
- Light exercise is possible starting 2 weeks after surgery.
- Strenuous exercise should wait until two months have passed.
